Jason & I have ALWAYS tried to save money where we can. And this summer is no exception.
I hope these Decorating, DIYing & Gardening ideas inspire you to create a backyard patio or backyard deck you will enjoy at your home for many years to come!
Repairing instead of Replacing Wood Patio Furniture
Our 8 year old Craiglist outdoor furniture (find my Craigslist tips here) had definitely seen better days but backyard Patio Furniture is EXPENSIVE!
SO… we decided to repair it rather than replace it.
Jason rebuilt the frames of 2 of our chaise lounges.
He used pressure treated wood this time in hopes that it will last longer along with scrap wood from a chair that had broken beyond repair.
Fixing Patio Furniture Cushions & Covers
While I washed, re-stuffed & patched the cushions. As you can see from this photo, they had gotten pretty dirty & gross!
The stuffing had really deteriorated inside our back cushions.
I used trash bags to re-stuff the cushion so everything stays in place while being water proof at the same time.
Jason kids that it feels like his Grandma’s sofa when you lean back but it gets the job done & is completely no sew!
I also added a patch to seat cushion with some leftover fabric from a former ottoman cover that Moose had destroyed.
Although, the patch is pretty obvious it saved us money from having to buy expensive Sunbrella fabric this year.

Power Washing the Backyard Deck & Backyard Patio
Power wash, power wash, power wash!
We started power washing our deck & flagstone walkway & what a DIFFERENCE it made.
The power washing continues here with all the vinyl siding & our driveway is up next!
We broke down & bought a power washer this year after realizing that it was almost the same cost as renting one.
We found this one on Amazon for less than $150 & it seems to do the job amazingly well!

Creating Your Own Privacy

A few years ago we DIYed this beautiful square lattice fence & planted a climbing hydrangea on it.
As you can see from this picture our backyard deck is completely private now!
