DIY Pallet Sign for Our Farmhouse Front Porch

A DIY Pallet Sign for the front porch adds so much character to the front of our home. And the best part is it was totally free to make, learn how to make yours today!

Hi everyone!  I am excited to join in for the first time with Farmhouse Friends where myself and a few of my blogging friends share our farmhouse projects and décor.   We have been working on adding Curb appeal to the front of our farmhouse and to help finish that off I created a DIY Pallet Sign with Jason’s help :).  Our family loves to use pallet wood because the wood is free and already distressed which is just perfect for the style of our old farmhouse.

After prying the wood from the pallet (read how we do that here) we lined the boards up one on top of the other to decide how big we wanted to make our DIY pallet sign.  Some of the boards had red paint on them so we separated out the painted boards from the plain ones.

Jason cut the center boards down so they were all the same length with a mitre saw.  We then cut 4 of the red boards to frame the sign lengthwise with a table saw.

Jason sanded the boards down and then attached the boards together with a pin nailer.

My sister had given us a vinyl cutout of our blog name on it for Christmas and I first tried to attach that to the board but we soon decided it was not sticking as well as we wanted it to.  I decided to cut out the letters in order to trace them.  We also printed out the words “the” and “est 2001” to add to the sign.

I cut out the words and numbers and traced them on the pallet sign with a pencil.

Using a sharpie I colored in the words and numbers I had traced for our DIY pallet sign.  Because the board was still a little rough the black letters from the sharpie came out looking distressed already!  Yay!

Jason screwed the sign up with 2 long exterior screws above our red entryway bench.

We hung it a little high because that faux beam will be coming down so we can extend the roof of our front porch soon.

I love the look of the sign next to our new barn light from Lamps Plus.

  1. Your sign is the perfect addition to your pretty front porch. It’s great that you could use pallet wood already painted with some red for the frame. Be ready for compliments when guests arrive to your home!

  2. This looks so cute on your porch, Tara! I thought the lettering would be a difficult process, but I love that you just used a Sharpie–so easy! I would love to try to make a sign like this for our farmhouse!
