Farmhouse Summer Home Tour 2016 - lehmanlane.net

If this is your first time visiting our blog my family and I are slowly fixing up a century old farmhouse, (a former turkey farm) in the suburbs. Wouldn’t it be fun if there were still turkeys:)?  This website is where I share diy projects,  decorating ideas, gardening tips and the occasional recipe that we learn along the way.  We still have a lot more projects planned but we love how it’s turning out so far.  We have been working a lot lately on the curb appeal of the front of our home and just finished making this pallet sign to finish it off.

Come on in to our entryway!  Can I just say how white hydrangeas are the best decorating accessory, they just make me smile :).

We built a small floating entryway table to the foyer this past fall after none of the other pieces of furniture that we had worked here.

Back up the steps we added an old door turned coat rack to the wall to store the overflow of coats, bags and backpacks.

The living room didn’t need much that a gallon of white paint couldn’t fix :).

Believe or not a lot of the furniture in our house we bought or found 2nd hand, we made, or we found at an outlet or on clearance.

I love adding shells to our summer décor.  Most of our shells we found on family beach vacations through the years.  I have been collecting them since I was a little girl.  For more shell decorating ideas check out my post here.

Our fireplace mantel I kept fairly simple with lots of whites, flowers and shells.

Shells make the perfect summer decorating accessory, especially in the summer! Come see how I use them to decorate our farmhouse!

I even added a shell to our pallet wreath.

The dining room also needed a new paint job and our old dining table needed a simple free fix to become the perfect farmhouse table:).

My dining room mantel couldn’t have been simpler to decorate.  Candles and some fern cut from our garden in a fun cow creamer.

Off the dining room is of course the kitchen.

We have big plans for the kitchen over the next few years and hope to change a few things to the eat in area this summer.

We have 3 boys and 1 little girl.  We recently finished complete room remodels of all the boys rooms but are currently working on our daughter’s room which is why her pics are missing from the tour.

Ryan’s room connects with our youngest, Tucker’s room.  Jason made a pallet sliding door to go between the two rooms.

With all the red trim in this room it is hard not to decorate in a patriotic fashion.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check our farmhouse summer tour!  I know I went a little crazy with the pictures but I am just starting to figure out how to use my camera practicing with it :).  Despite all my inside summer decorating we really try to spend as much time outside as possible.  If you missed our summer garden tour and outside spaces post make sure to check that our here.  Be sure to stop by my friends tours below!  Happy Summer!

  1. Tara, your home is so beautiful! How fun that it used to be a turkey farm 🙂 I love that you’ve stayed true to the home’s original style and purpose – your farmhouse touches complement it so well!

    1. Thanks Emily!!! I definitely wish there were still turkeys here but I am slowly trying to talk my hubby into some chickens :). We really have tried to stay true to the character of our farmhouse so I appreciate that comment so much!

  2. Tara, your home is absolutely gorgeous. I love the wood floors and the beams and ceiling in the kitchen. That kitchen window with the ledge in front to put things on is precious. Your dining table is amazing. I have one to build on my list of things to get done.

  3. Tara!!! This is the most I’ve ever seen of your gorgeous house! I love everything…. the red trim, the sliding barn doors, the wood furniture pieces … on and on! I think the kitchen is already perfect, so I can’t wait to see how you change it up! Thanks for sharing! Great tour!

    1. Thanks Amy! It’s fun to share more pictures now that we have made enough progress with the renovations:) oh, and my new lighting kit is amazing at helping take brighter pics of rooms that looked way too dark before!!!

  4. Just love your home! I love all the fireplaces…especially in the master bedroom and dining room. Looks so warm and cozy. Really like how you stay true to the character of your home in your decorating choices. Absolutely beautiful!

  5. Tara, there is just something so peaceful and calming in the way you decorate. It’s a feast for the eyes and the soul! I absolutely enjoyed this tour! Thank you for sharing!

  6. What a lovely home. There are so many homey and welcoming touches. I need to get to work and keep at it to get our home of just one year a little more finished! I have found there is at least one variety of hydrangea that will grow down here in the Florida heat and am anxious to get some planted in the back yard.

  7. Your home is so full of character, Tara! I love it and wow, can’t believe it used to be a turkey farm! Like you, I love having our kitchen sink face the backyard where I can watch the kids from a window. Thanks for sharing & happy summer! xo

  8. Your home is always one of my favorites! It’s so beautiful and I love your decor! Love your dining room table and I’m still swooning over your son’s room that you did for ORC!

  9. You have a lovely home! It looks calm and inviting! I don’t usually think calm when I see the colour red -but you have only used it as accent pieces and it looks great!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comments about our farmhouse Dianne! The color red has definitely challenged my decorating but I think I am finally figuring out how to make it work :).
