Sharing a few simple DIY beautiful ideas of winter decor & how I keep the white winter decor & decorations in our farmhouse bright, fresh & cozy even in the dark dreary days of winter with pictures.
Decorating after Christmas can be tough.
Any house can feel dark, dreary & bare after putting away all of it’s Christmas decorations.

Winter Decor Ideas in the Family Room
Once Christmas had past, I started to taking down most of our Christmas decorations…

Down came our new faux Christmas tree, ornaments & empty stockings…

Away went the Christmas wreaths at the windows & the gifts under the tree…

Once all of the empty holiday boxes & wrapping paper were disposed of & all of the dirty dishes were washed & put away.
I was ready for our home to look clean & organized for the New Year with some winter decor ideas.

Winter Fireplace Mantel Decor
For our family room fireplace mantel, I kept the winter decor simple with 2 DIY cedar post houses, fresh greenery in a mason jar & candlelight.

The pine needles keep our fireplace mantel looking fresh, smelling lovely & looking beautiful while the candlelight & warm fire burning in our wood stove keep the room feeling very cozy.

Winter Decor in the Powder Room
An oil lantern along with white & green winter decor keep our small powder room looking clean & fresh.

Winter Decor Ideas in the Living Room
After the Christmas holiday is over, instead of hiding away every reminder of Christmas, I left some out as sweet reminders of the season.

White Winter Living Room Fireplace Mantel Decor

The white wintry decorations of snowmen & snowflakes I kept out for a little while longer but added a popular New Years printable quote for a little extra winter decor.

There are candles in just about every room in our farmhouse.
Along with many pillows, throws & fires to keep us warm & cozy for the days to come!

Adding Greenery for Fresh Winter Decor
Wherever, I felt something was missing I added some greenery.
There is no better way to make your home decor feel more fresh & alive than with houseplants.

Green houseplants do a terrific job to soften all the white.
My absolute favorite is ferns.
You can never have TOO many ferns & my brother in law surprised me with 4 new ones for Christmas!

Paperwhites also make beautiful winter decor!
See how to plant your own HERE.

Fresh houseplants are also a sweet reminder that Spring will be here before we realize!
Winter Decor Ideas in the Dining Room

I kept my winter table decor simple with evergreen boughs placed in a wooden dough bowl & green & white table runner.

The greenery continued into the kitchen.
Winter Decor Ideas in the Kitchen
I am on the hunt for a live herb wreath to replace the evergreen one over our stove.

I don’t think I will ever tire of decorating our new kitchen!

But for now it is all these little touches like candles & greenery that help keep ALL of our farmhouse looking bright & cheery during these long dark days of winter.
I hope this inspires you to create beautiful & cozy decor in your home!

3 Tips for Caring for Houseplants
I must know where you got that Scrabble wallhanging?
Hi Susan! Believe or not, my husband Jason made it 🙂
Your house looks so beautiful for winter, Tara! I still have our winter wreath up from Xmas and will likely not take it down till end of this month :). Love how bright and cozy your home looks. Gotta love houseplants!
Thank you so much for stopping by to see my winter decor Tee! Yes houseplants are the best!
Can you also share where you buy your throw pillows for your sofa?
Our living room pillow covers are from Pottery barn. I love that they are machine washable & I keep my eyes out for when they go on sale 🙂
