Houseplants can brighten up your house & bring life into your home unlike any other home decor accessory!
Caring for houseplants doesn’t have to be as hard as it may seem.
Most houseplants require very little care as long as you know the best tips & ideas for caring for houseplants.

Caring for Houseplants Tip ONE – Research & Learn ALL About the Houseplants you Already Own
Make sure to pick out the right plant for the right spot in your home.
Don’t buy a plant that needs a lot of shade and put it in front of the sunniest window of your home.
Research the plants first before bringing them home.
The internet is a tremendous resource for looking up a houseplant you may not know.

I have also found this book, The Complete Guide to Houseplants to be a huge help for me when I have a question about one of my houseplants.
Caring for Houseplants Tip TWO – Schedule a Day to Check in on Your Houseplants
Find time every week to check on your houseplants & add it to your calendar so you don’t forget!
I pick one day a week when I check on and water my houseplants, usually Mondays, the same day I clean my farmhouse.
Most houseplants need watered just once a week and succulents even less than that.
If a plant looks droopy or the soil is dry than the plant is letting you know it needs to be watered.
Vice versa if a plants soil is wet or damp wait a few days to water it.

Caring for Houseplants Tip THREE – Keep them Looking Pretty
Cut off the Dead or Yellow Leaves
When a leaf or flower bud has died or is looking sad, cut it off.
Any old scissors will do.
This is the EASIEST tip when caring for houseplants & will immediately help make your houseplant to look brand new again.
Dusting Your Houseplants
Keep your leaves looking pretty by dusting them off.

Swiffer dry cleaning cloths like these, Swiffer Sweeper Dry Sweeping Cloth Refills, 48 Countdo a great job catching the dust off of the leaves.
I also spray my plants with a plant spray, Bonide 116 12-Ounce Leaf Shine to help keep them shiny.

Fertilizing & Repotting Your Houseplants
Twice a Year, I add fertilizer to my houseplants to keep them growing strong & healthy.
Usually in the spring & again in the fall.
This is also a good time to repot any houseplants that have grown too big for their britches… or flower pots.
I hope this inspires you & leaves you with a few easy & successful tips when caring for houseplants!
