Caring for Houseplants – Tips for Success

1)Know your plants – Make sure to pick out the right plant for the right spot in your home. Don’t buy a plant that needs a lot of shade and put it in front of the sunniest window of your home. Research the plants first before bringing them home. The internet is a tremendous resource for looking up a houseplant you may not know. I have also found this book, The Complete Guide to Houseplants to be a huge help for me when I have a question about one of my houseplants.
2)Be Attentive – Find time every week to check on your houseplants. I pick one day a week when I check on and water my houseplants. Most houseplants need watered just once a week and succulents even less than that. If a plant looks droopy or the soil is dry than the plant is letting you know it needs to be watered. Vice versa if a plants soil is wet or damp wait a few days to water it.
3)Keep them Looking Pretty – When a leaf or flower bud has died or is looking sad cut it off. Keep your leaves looking pretty by dusting them off.
Swiffer dry cleaning cloths like these, Swiffer Sweeper Dry Sweeping Cloth Refills, 48 Countdo a great job catching the dust off of the leaves. I also spray my plants with a plant spray, Bonide 116 12-Ounce Leaf Shine
to help keep them shiny.
