It is no surprise to most of you that know me how much I LOVE to garden.
I am outside most days, regardless of the weather… gardening!
I have quite a few tours of our home’s inside rooms (see them HERE) & wanted to share how our outside rooms are coming along!
When we moved in our farmhouse almost 8 years ago it was very important to find a house that had plenty of room to garden in.
While most people have moving vans full of furniture, clothes and appliances I brought 2 truck loads of plants with us and have been gardening ever since.
We have made lots of changes to the curb appeal of the front of our farmhouse over the years & landscaping made some of the biggest changes. (see the before & after with landscaping HERE)
While most of the front garden is summer blooming, the welcome of the spring tulip bulbs along with the pink of the August moon camellia do make quite an impact to the spring garden curb appeal of our farmhouse.
Here’s a look at what is blooming in our spring garden along with some of my favorite plants, trees & shrubs in our spring garden tour…
Redbud Tree with understory of Tulips, Daffodils & Hosta in the Spring Garden off the Driveway
Our redbud tree just off the driveway looks beautiful dressed in branches full of small pink flowers while the tulips, daffodils & hyacinths are just finishing blooming.
Meanwhile the green of the hosta & peonies are getting ready for the summer garden.
Under the stone wall, a mixture of Solomon’s seal, more hosta & bulbs are adding texture & contrast to help soften all the stone.
Solomon’s Seal Against the Stone Wall in the Spring Garden
Just up the steps, our stone walkway (DIY HERE), looks beautiful contrasted with the blooming tulips, Hosta & dogwood trees.
The flower flowers of the Dogwood Florida & Kousa along with so many spring bulbs & the green of the Hosta are such a welcome sight after a long winter in our spring garden!
Rhododendrons & Geraniums
A look back the opposite way of this spring garden stone walkway (HERE) shows the beginnings of the pink Rhododendrons & perennial purple geraniums just starting to bloom under the Dogwood Florida.
Dogwood & Lilac Stone Walkway in the Spring Garden
The fragrant blooms & light purple of the French lilac shrub we planted are not to be outdone off our pea gravel fire pit patio in the spring garden! (DIY HERE)
I adore the look & scent of the cut blooms from our lilac shrub in a large vase in our farmhouse kitchen.
Just off the backyard brick patio (DIY HERE), we have more trees to shade the patio along the color of the Hosta, bleeding hearts & white fragrant flowers viburnum shrub.
The evergreen holly & Skip laurel background allows the white flowers to really pop in the summer and spring garden. (see more of our white flower sunken garden HERE)
Orchard & Raised Vegetable Beds in the Spring Garden
We opened up the middle of our yard so that kids can have more space to run around and play in & so we could start to grow grass & plant a small home orchard (see it HERE) & raised vegetable garden.
The Strawberry Plants are just beginning to bloom promising a bumper crop soon to come. (see the DIY strawberry patch HERE)
I recently planted some lettuce, spinach, Kale, tomatoes & peppers in our raised vegetable garden. (see our raised vegetable beds HERE)
Although, our fruit trees tend to bloom at different times in our spring garden, my favorite spring fruit trees blooms are those of the crabapple & apple tree blooms.
I hope this inspires you with lots of gardening ideas for your spring garden this year!
