I have started A LOT of gardens around our farmhouse & today I am sharing 6 of my favorites with you along with some of my favorite plants to garden with. These small garden ideas are simple to create & look beautiful!

One – A Small Garden at the Front of Our Farmhouse

Soon after moving in, we started with a clean slate & took out all of the original landscaping that was overgrown & out of character for a farmhouse garden.
We softened all the stone & siding of our farmhouse by adding lots of flowers, shade & green!
We added evergreen hollies, boxwoods & a camellia to the back of our foundation garden so there would be something green all year round.
Hydrangeas, bulbs & Hostas add more color from Spring through fall.
Two – A Small Garden under a Tree

Hostas, Hydrangeas, Solomon Seal & Ginger are just a few of my favorites!
Three – A Small Garden Next to A Lattice Fence

We added this lattice fence to give us privacy when we enjoying our kitchen deck.
Our Climbing hydrangea has filled the space between the lattice almost entirely. Purple Iris & a dogwood tree add early spring color before the hydrangea vine starts blooming in this small narrow garden.
Four – A Small Garden Walkway

We have a flagstone walkway all around our farmhouse. The walkway along our back is fairly tight but that did not stop us from adding dogwood trees & sky pencil hollies.
The walkway to our fire pit & back patio is filled with trees, roses, Hostas & more hydrangeas.

I still can not believe how well this small garden has filled in since we planted it just a few years ago.
The white rhododendrons we planted are gorgeous against the dark evergreen southern magnolia & boxwood shrubs.

Six – The Potager or Kitchen Garden

Our newest garden is “The Potager” or kitchen garden. We recently added an arbor to it & lots of herbs, vegetables & strawberries.
