Sharing all the details about how to make this beautiful outdoor DIY Pallet sign for our farmhouse front porch including a step by step tutorial of how to build a diy pallet sign for your home.
We have been working on adding Curb appeal to the front of our farmhouse & to help finish that off I created a DIY Pallet Sign with Jason’s help. 🙂
Our family loves to make pallet projects & use pallet wood because the wood is free and already distressed which is just perfect for the style of our old farmhouse.

Step by Step Instructions for How to Make a DIY Pallet Sign
Size of our DIY Pallet Sign is 37″ Wide by 22″ Tall by 1.5″ Deep
Step ONE – Take Apart your Pallet

Step TWO – Line Up the Pallet Boards & Cut the Boards to Size
After prying the wood from the pallet, we lined the boards up one on top of the other to decide how big we wanted to make our DIY pallet sign.

Some of the boards had red paint on them so we separated out the painted boards from the plain ones.
Jason cut the center boards down so they were all the same length with a mitersaw.
We then cut 4 of the red boards to frame the sign lengthwise with a table saw.
Step THREE – Sand Down the Pallet Wood Boards

Jason sanded the boards down with our orbital hand sander.
Step FOUR – Nail the Pallet Boards Together to Create a DIY Pallet Sign
We attached the boards together with a finish pin nailer.

Step FIVE – Using Vinyl Letters to Create your Welcome Name Sign
My sister had given us a vinyl cutout of our blog name on it for Christmas & I first tried to attach that to the board but we soon decided it was not sticking as well as we wanted it to.
I decided to cut out the letters in order to trace them.
We also printed out the words “the” & “est 2001” to add to our outdoor diy pallet sign.

Tracing the Vinyl Letters for the Outdoor Pallet Sign
I cut out the words & numbers & traced them on the diy pallet sign with a pencil.

Using a Sharpie to Color in the Pallet Name Sign for the Front Porch
Using a sharpie I colored in the words and numbers I had traced for our DIY pallet sign.
Because the board was still a little rough the black letters from the sharpie came out looking distressed already! Yay!

Step SIX – How to Hang the Outdoor DIY Pallet Sign for the Farmhouse Front Porch
Jason screwed the sign up with 2 long exterior screws above our red entryway bench.

We hung it a little high because that faux beam will be coming down so we can extend the roof of our front porch soon.

I love the look of our diy pallet sign next to our new barn light from Lamps Plus.

I hope this inspires you to make a diy pallet sign for your front porch!
