Our Plan for our Backyard Patio Makeover
Taking down an old Deck (see it HERE)
We took down our previously awkward deck that had zero shade, a groundhog living under it & a hot tub centered in the middle of it.
Adding a Reclaimed Brick Patio (see it Here)
Our previous deck was built on top of a brick patio. We saved the reclaimed brick & used it to create a new brick patio.
Building a Wood Retaining Wall (see it HERE)
We built a pressure treated wood retaining wall to hold back the dirt & create a sunken patio.
Moving the Hot Tub from the Center of the Patio (see it HERE)
We moved our hot tub from the center of our former deck off to the side of our new patio.
Adding a Flagstone Patio (see it HERE)
We reused Flagstone to create a small Patio outside of our family room sliding doors.
Landscaping around our Sunken Brick Patio Garden (see it HERE)
We added a white Patio Garden around our sunken brick patio.
Building a Wooden Garden Arbor (see it HERE)
We built a wooden garden arbor to the entrance to our flagstone patio.
Spray Painted Wrought Iron Furniture Makeover (see it HERE)
We transformed a vintage wrought iron patio set with spray paint for just $50.
Tour our Back Patio Makeover
I am going to let the pictures speak for themselves rather than writing too much about it. As you saw from the before pic we had our work cut out for us!!!
We have tried to spend every second that we can enjoying this new backyard patio.
Whether drinking a glass of wine or cup of coffee, having an alfresco dinner with friends & family, reading & looking through gardening, design books & magazines or spending time in our hot tub & enjoying s’mores from our new fire pit.
Cost of Back Patio Makeover
In total this project cost us less than $1500 for supplies which is not inexpensive.
However, without all the blood, sweat & tears we put into this outdoor DIY project it would have cost A WHOLE LOT MORE.
As per usual we still want to do a few more things like our fix our rundown garden shed but for now we are determined to RELAX & enjoy this new back patio makeover. 🙂

What did you use to patch the grass? I know it is a Scott’s product I cannot find the post.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for stopping by Nancy! We haven’t used any Scott’s product in this house to patch our grass so I am not sure what post you are asking about.
Hi Tara, I just came across your patio makeover post from 2017. It looks so great! I will check out your other posts to see if any updates have been made. But I have a question. Do you remember where your black fire pit/fireplace/chimnea thingy came from? I have been on the search the past 2 seasons but am not finding one I love, until I saw yours!!! The size and style are perfect.
Thanks! Crissy
Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my patio makeover Crissy! Believe or not we found our fire pit in trash so I am sorry I don’t know where it is originally from.
