We are fortunate to have many fireplace mantel in our very old farmhouse in the suburbs of Pa.
I love to decorate our fireplace mantels year round but I especially at Christmastime!
Over the years, I like to change our Christmas mantels… probably depending on my mood….. from simple to a little more complicated & from neutral to colorful.
You might see some of the same farmhouse decor & homemade DIY projects with a different twist helping make each year’s Christmas mantel more unique.

This year my living room Christmas mantel was very similar to last years Christmas mantel with pops of red & my favorite pallet wreath.

How to Decorate Christmas Mantel TWO with Garland & a Boxwood Wreath
Fresh greenery was the star of the show in this Christmas mantel.
My fresh garland & wreath were from Trader Joe’s & very inexpensive.
The fresh boxwood wreath & pine garland was stunning but unfortunately only lasted a few days with our fire going.
I would love to give fresh wreaths & Christmas mantels with garland a chance again in the future but will plan on getting them a few days before Christmas so I don’t have to worry about them lasting very long!

How to Decorate Christmas Mantel THREE Neutral Green & White Christmas Mantel that is Narrow
For our dining room, I love to keep our Christmas mantel neutral & simple with pops of greenery, glass, metal & a neutral white background.
Our dining room fireplace mantel is very narrow at 4″, so whatever I place on this mantel can not be deeper than 4″.
This year’s Christmas dining room was no exception, with my new Target pine wreath that looks real with fresh greenery candles & white decor.

A few years back, I anchored our dining room Christmas mantel with a dried magnolia wreath & a few more gold accents & fresh Cedar greens.

How to Decorate Christmas Mantel FIVE with a TV above It in the Family Room
Our family room TV hangs above our fireplace mantel & wood stove.
I usually keep the garland on either side of the TV so it won’t affect the remote with our DIY cedar houses.
Jason crafted the cedar houses, to look like every house we have lived in since we were married.
We keep them out year round, but I think they look especially festive at Christmastime.

How to Decorate Christmas Mantel SIX with a Magnolia Wreath & Christmas Houses
Before we hung the TV above our fireplace mantel in the family room, I decorated our Christmas mantel with my DIY magnolia wreath & cedar Christmas houses.
I am not going to lie, I think our family room Christmas mantel looked prettier WITHOUT the TV but it was a compromise between Jason & I.
How to Decorate Christmas Mantel SEVEN with a Mirror
Our master bedroom fireplace has a mirror above it so I like to hang a wreath on the mirror along with some candles & faux Christmas tree with fairy lights.
How to Decorate Christmas Mantel EIGHT for Winter that is not Christmas
After Christmas is over, I like to keep my fireplace mantel decor neutral & white to brighten up the dark & dreary days of winter.
However this fireplace mantel mantel, could easily pass for a Winter white wonderland Christmas Mantel.
