6 Steps to Create the Best Master Bedroom Sitting Area

We FINALLY have a cozy master bedroom sitting area.
This special spot has become a quiet place for Jason & I to get away from all the craziness of our farmhouse especially over the last few months.
While not every master bedroom is as specious as ours… (our first place was not much bigger than our bedroom is now)…
I hope my 6 steps to create the best master bedroom sitting are will inspire you to create a quiet & cozy spot in your home even if you only have room for a small chair & table in the corner.
ONE – Comfy Seating for a Master Bedroom Sitting Area
There is no point creating a “master bedroom sitting area” in your home if NO one wants to sit down on the furniture.
A comfy chair, bench or sofa is a must!
While aesthetics are important, please choose furniture that is relaxing to sit on.
I have made the mistake too many times of buying furniture that looks great but is neither practical or comfortable.
When we created our Home Gym & Office downstairs we moved the furniture out so we had plenty of room to exercise.
Our former basement love seat & chair found a new home off to the side of our master bedroom. And the best part, our comfortable seating was FREE.
They are from Ikea & the washable slipcovers have come in over handy over the years!
Especially, with 4 kids & a crazy dog!
I added 2 throw pillows from Pottery Barn & a fuzzy throw to make our seating extra cozy.
TWO – Add a Rug to Anchor your Master Bedroom Seating Area
I really don’t like sitting in a sofa or chair if there is not something under my feet especially in winter when our farmhouse in cold!
So, I added this beautiful & colorful vintage Persian rug that we have carried from house to house to house for our master bedroom sitting area.
It’s a bit on the longer side but it works for now & it was FREE!
The red in our Persian rug picks up the red accents in our farmhouse bedroom like our cedar chest & flower pot.
Unfortunately, Jason is not as much of a fan of this rug as I am so I may have to change it in the future… but for now, it is staying in our master bedroom!
THREE – Add Furniture to Put Your Feet Up in the Master Bedroom Seating Area
Following on the theme of cozy furniture… 🙂
After a long day there is nothing I want more than to put up my feet.
We ordered this coffee table from Ikea when it went on sale a few weeks ago. For $60 right now it is def a steal!
It is the perfect size for our love seat sofa & chair to put up our feet in our master bedroom sitting area.
I love the fact that it has a shelf under it for more storage & it doubles as a desk for Jason & I to work!
If you don’t have a coffee table, an ottoman or foot stool would be a great substitute to put up your feet.
FOUR – A Table to Store your Coffee or Drink in your Master Bedroom Sitting Area
Although, our coffee table works well as a spot to place our drinks in our master bedroom sitting area…
We added a nesting table between our sofa & coffee table so we had plenty of spaces to lay or store our items.
The extra tables come in very handy with Jason & I both working from home!
The smallest table can easily be moved anywhere in our master bedroom sitting area.
If you guessed our nesting table is from Ikea, than you would be right. 🙂
FIVE – Baskets Make Great Storage in our Master Bedroom Sitting Area
As with every other room in our Farmhouse 🙂 I do love my Longaberger baskets!
Baskets make great farmhouse decor too!
They work well to hide magazines, laptop chargers & glasses… whatever….while still looking great & keeping you organized.
SIX – Houseplants for the Win in a Master Bedroom Sitting Area
If you couldn’t already tell, I love my houseplants!
I have spent a lot of time over the years, researching the benefits of houseplants & how they improve the air in your home.
I think it is especially important to have them in your master bedroom where you sleep every night.
In the past few months of quarantine my houseplant collection has definitely grown and grown!
And the best part…. they look beautiful too!
Believe it or not we are still not done remodeling our farmhouse.
We still plan on adding a bedroom door to our master bedroom (hopefully soon)…
Can you believe our farmhouse had no doors on any of the bedrooms?! The master bedroom is the only room left without a door.
We also plan to finally start remodeling our very ugly & dated master bathroom remodel.
If you are thinking about creating a master bedroom sitting area in your home, I hope this inspires you to get started!
