Sharing an Easy DIY for to transform an old wooden beverage crate into a DIY Art Caddy to keep ALL your kids art supplies & pencils organized when doing homework, virtually schooling or homeschooling.
Can you believe it’s almost time for school to start?
With 4 kids ranging from elementary school to high school we have a lot of school & art projects going on at our house.
We will soon be in the throes of world map coloring, math cube circling and my personal favorite… create a giant president project.
Although I kept most of our art supplies organized they were stored in 8, (EIGHT) different containers in 2 different rooms which could get a little crazy when we would lose track of where one container was.

Instructions for How to Create a DIY Art Caddy
A close friend found this awesome retro Coke beverage crate at an estate sale she was helping with for just $20!
I had been on the hunt for an old beverage crate for a few years now and was very excited to finally have one to decorate with.
Although this crate has seen better days I love that it still has some of the original paint showing through.
The old coke bottle sections are the perfect size for dividing all the different pencils, markers, glue, scissors, highlighters, colored pencils & art supplies.
Because there are some openings in the bottom of the wood I needed to find a way to keep the colored pencils & crayons from falling out the bottom of the crate without taking away from the history of the wooden crate.
Use Water Bottles to Keep Art Supplies Organized
My solution, water bottles.
I cut the water bottles in half & they were the perfect size for the original bottle compartments.
After I had drank & cut enough water bottles to fill every compartment I had WAY too much fun sharpening & color organizing our art supplies.
I just love how all the colored pencils, scissors, pens & glue sticks look inside the crate.
Our new DIY Art Caddy looks great on our kitchen table & the handles on it are super easy to move the beverage crate off our kitchen table when it is time to eat :).
If you are looking for a caddy for art supplies, I hope you will give my beverage crate turned DIY art caddy a try!
It really has held up the last few years with my 4 kids & especially now that they are doing all their schooling from home.

Tara,
I love how you transformed an old coke bottle crate into a pencil organizer! I have a similar organizer that I love too. Although my son had literally 4 pairs of scissors in his room! I kept buying more since I thought we didn’t have any!
Thanks so much for stopping by to see our new art caddy Janine! I have had the same problem with buying things we already had! I am hoping hat keeping all of our art supplies together in one room will help solve that problem 🙂
