As the weather is starting to get cooler the kids and I have been craving my mom-mom’s homemade rice pudding recipe.
This recipe could not be any simpler and is my definitely my comfort food.
The smell alone takes me back to my mom-mom’s kitchen apartment where I used to walk to after elementary school.
I felt so special when she made her homemade rice pudding recipe for me and my sisters!
She would make it instead of cake for our birthdays and it was dessert when we came over for dinner.
There is nothing like it on a cool night!
And it makes the house smell amazing!!!!
My mom-mom had a sweet tooth so you might want to lessen up on the sugar if you don’t.
Ingredients Needed to Make Homemade Rice Pudding
- 8 cups or 1/2 Gallon of milk (I use 1%)
- 1 heaping cup white rice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- cinnamon to sprinkle on top
Step by Step Instructions for How To Make Homemade Rice Pudding

Step ONE – Combine all ingredients except the cinnamon into a large glass bowl.
NO need to stir… seriously, do not mix!
It will work out, I promise.
Step TWO – Sprinkle Cinnamon on Top
Step THREE – Bake the Homemade Rice Pudding
Bake at 350 for 2 hours.
Serves 8-12 people.
Refrigerate leftovers.
Great for dessert.
This is also delicious eaten the next morning cold for breakfast!
