Every fall, we have bushels of apples to cook with & this fall is no exception!

Using a Dehydrator Verses Baking in the Oven
Although, I have never baked my apple slices in the oven, I find a dehydrator to be incredibly easy to operate while not taking away from any oven space & using much less energy.
The more dehydrator trays you have, the more food you can add.
We have made dried bananas, strawberries, cherries, turkey, chicken & beef jerky with it.
Dried Apple Slices are definitely our family favorite with the jerky coming in a close second.
We have had ours for 8 years now & it’s still going strong!
Step by Step Instructions for How to Make Dried Apple Slices
Step ONE – Peel, Core & Slice the Apples
Start by Peeling Coring & Slicing your Apples to add to the Dehydrator.
This is a great way to use up any spotted or bruised apples you might have.
Step TWO – Add the Apples to the Dehydrator
I add the peeled & sliced apples to our dehydrator one tray at a time.
I find the each tray holds about 1.5-2 apples depending on how thick you slice them.
I put the dehydrator on the setting for dried fruits & vegetables which is 135 degrees.
How Long Will It Take for the Apples to Dry?
The amount of time it takes for your apple slices to dry really depends on the thickness of the apple slice.
The thicker the slice, the longer it takes to dry. I find that it usually takes about 8-10 hours for mine to dry.
Step THREE – Take Your Dried Apples Out
Take your Dried Apples Slices out of the dehydrator & enjoy!
How Long will Dried Apple Slices Last?
Dried Apple Slices should last for years in your kitchen pantry.
In all honesty, our homemade dried apple slices have not lasted past a few days in our farmhouse with my kids… especially the boys!
But every year, I hope to get them to last into the winter time. 🙂
I hope this inspires you to make homemade dried apple slices at your home!
