This was my first time using a wood burner tool and I am not going to lie I was definitely intimated by it!
It was very easy to use after a short time practicing with it I was ready to create with it on my Basswood Round.
Step By Step Instructions for How to Make a DIY Rustic Sign

I decided to make a Rustic sign for my son’s bedroom. I thought it would be fun to create the sign about a tree since I was writing on… a tree:).
I created the quote based on a verse from the Psalms.
“When you delight in the Word, and meditate on it day and night, THEN… you will be like a tree firmly planted.” Psalm 1:2-3
Step ONE – Trace out the Drawing & Quote of your DIY Rustic Sign
Once I knew what I was adding to the Basswood Round, I drew the tree and quote to the wood with a pencil.

Step TWO – Use the Wood Burning Tool to Make the Image Permanent on your DIY Rustic Sign
After I was done penciling in my tree and quote, I burned the wood on top of the pencil with the wood burner tool.
It took me less than an hour to complete this sign so it’s an easy project to do while watching TV after the kiddos are in bed!

Step THREE – Sand the Pencil Marks Off
After trying unsuccessfully to erase the pencil marks from the DIY rustic sign I left after burning the wood I lightly sanded the wood thanks to a suggestion from a friend. 🙂
Sanding worked perfectly!
Just make sure to not sand it too much or you will sand some of your picture, ha!

Step FOUR – Hang the DIY Rustic Sign
I cut a small piece of ribbon an used a thumbtack to hang the Basswood Round to the wall.

A sawtooth picture hanger would also work well to hang your DIY rustic sign.

I love the look of the DIY rustic sign in my son’s bedroom.
The rustic wood goes well with the rustic wood built in desk we created for Ben’s room.
