Easy Tips for Organizing the Linen Closet

The Linen Closet Before
Our farmhouse had no dedicated linen closet when we moved in.
Up until a few weeks ago we stored our linens and toiletries on a broken freestanding bookshelf inside of an empty closet.
It really never worked well.
The closet doors were broken and since the shelves were uneven the linens would regularly fall behind the broken bookcases and get lost for a little while.
We recently turned this empty closet into hallway closet for my husband Jason.
We thought it made the most sense to give him the closet closest to the bathroom so he wasn’t searching for his clothes with his phone light in our bedroom at 5 am, ha!
We turned Jason’s old closet in our master bedroom into our new linen closet.
I realize that a bedroom closet is not a typical linen closet but it works well for our family.
When we added the small closet a few years ago (you can see that DIY closet renovation here), we made sure to add a bunch of shelves to the inside of the closet for extra storage.
My #1 Tip to Use Metal Tags to Help with Organizing the Linen Closet
This past fall I found these metal tags at the Target dollar spot and thought they would be perfect to add to our linen closet shelves.
I wish now that I had bought a few more for every closet in our home, ha!
They were the just the thing to give me the perfect push I needed to start organizing the linen closet.
I found some similar metal label tags on Amazon, here.
Separating Shelves for the Sheets, Pillows & Comforters
I added the large metal label tags to the bigger shelves that hold our sheets, pillows and comforters.
Our family collection of suitcases is on the bottom of the linen closet shelves.
Storing the Sheets Sets Inside their Pillowcases when organizing the Linen Closet
I like to store all of our sheets inside their matching pillowcases.
Organizing the Linen Closet Shelves that Store Toiletries & Hot Water Bottles
I added the smaller tags to the shelves that hold our toilet paper, shampoos and hot water bottles.
These shorter shelves used to hold Jason’s shoes but are perfect for storing our bathroom toiletries.
These metal label tags do a great job keeping all of our toiletries organized so everyone knows exactly where things go and when we need to pick up more tissues & are very budget friendly!
With a big family, lots of sheets and plenty of toilet paper it feels great to have one more organized closet in our home.
I hope this gives you some ideas for organizing the linen closet in your home on a budget!
