Light Up the Night – Summer Garden Party on the Deck

Learn how to light up your summer deck or patio for an evening garden party - NO ugly extension cords required!!! #BalsamHill #SummerHousewalk #LightUpTheNight2016

There is something magical about gardens at night.  I have always wanted to have a night time summer garden party.  When I was contacted by Balsam Hill about doing a sponsored post for them called “Light Up the Night” I immediately said yes!  I have been wanting one of their gorgeous Christmas trees for years now and after seeing Courtney from French Country Cottage’s post yesterday I want one of their copper fire bowls :).  Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page at the end of this post for a special coupon code just for you guys!!!

*this post is sponsored by Balsam Hill but all my opinions about boxwood wreaths and outside lighting are completely my own*

We haven’t really had a chance to have people over at night yet because we don’t have any outside lights on our deck other than a motion spot light.

Believe me waving my hand every couple minutes to turn back on the lights gets old after a little while :).   Balsam Hill provided 2 square boxwood wreaths and 2 strands of long fairy string lights.

The best thing about these 2 pieces is that they are battery powered so no ugly extension cords required and I can move them anywhere around my house. Yay!

I added the 2 strands of the fairy string lights under my glass cloche and added it to the top of one of the square wreaths.

Those little fairy string lights really pack a punch.  I was surprised how much light they brought to our table.  One really nice thing about these fairy string lights is that the wire of the strand is a little stiffer and you are able to bend and shape it and have it stay in place.

I added the 2nd wreath over our enamel top table that I found on the curb a few years ago.  It brings just the right amount of light to our little drink table :).

I brought out some drinks I had already mixed up and poured in small Mason jars and added them to a basket of ice to keep them cold.

I also brought out some more clear mason jars that I added small tea lights to.  I even hung 3 on the large spruce tree we have just off our deck.  I’ll be sharing a super easy way to create hanging ball jar lights next week.

These Balsam Hill square boxwood wreaths are so versatile.

They look great hanging on a wall but I really like them as part of a centerpiece on a table.

Here I placed the vase of hydrangeas in the middle of one of wreaths on the drink table.  So pretty!

All the different lights truly made our deck glow.  I brought out some wine and cheese and invited a few girlfriends over and we had a great night catching up.

The boxwood wreaths and fairy string lights are fantastic and I plan on using them all year round.  Thanks again to Balsam Hill for sponsoring this post and providing me with these fun lite products :).

  1. Your back yard with the lights looks so festive, my favorite thing to do is decorate my back yard with lights. You are ready for the holidays. I can’t believe its coming around the corner. Hugs Maria

    1. Hi Maria! I know all this hot weather is making me long for cooler days :). Although, I do love the relaxed feel of the summer!!! Have a great weekend and take care, Tara

  2. Very pretty. If you do have an outlet out there, have you thought of stringing Christmas lights around just the trunk of the tree I see there in your picture ? I love them on the trunk of trees and would give you even more light ! Just plug them in when you need them

    1. It’s so funny that you suggested that Linda because my husband and I were just thinking about that but neither of us wanted to go up in the hot attic to find and then string the Christmas lights :). Maybe when the weather cools off! Thank you so much for stopping by!!!

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by Debbie! Our family really does enjoy spending time outside! Best wishes on creating an outdoor space of your own!

    1. Hi Tina! I found the red linen at Wegmans. I really like the towel. It washes beautifully and never needs to be ironed like so many of my dish towels do. Thanks so much for stopping by to comment!

  4. Your deck looks beautiful! I love the soft glow of the fairy lights combined with the tealights – it’s so perfect for enjoying calm summer nights 🙂
