We just can’t wait for Spring to get here…it seems like winter will be here forever!!! Today I put away most of our winter decorations away and have been slowly adding some Spring touches to all of the rooms in our house starting with our Family Room. If I can’t have winter outside I want to at least want to bring it in:).
The last two weekends I have been busy painting the family room. We are crossing our fingers that the insulation Jason put around our water pipes will keep them from freezing again. I am praying he won’t have to open up any more walls for the rest of the year!!!
Jason finally caved in and let me paint the fireplace white! Woo Hoo! I told him it could be my Valentine’s present…and yes I did paint it on Valentine’s Day:). Afterword he told me he still liked it better red. Oh well, it’s painted white now and I promised him to keep the red on the window and doors (for now anyway;). The red does help hide the dirty fingerprints and paw prints well and it helps give the room a sense of warmth.
I do love the fireplace white though. It really brightens up the whole space and I have more freedom with the white especially when it comes to decorating the mantel. I have been slowly painting the red trim white in this room starting with the baseboard and crown molding and now with the fireplace:). The whiter the room gets the more the red saltillo tile grows on me. Although we are very thankful for our wool rug because those tiles are pretty cold in the winter! They were only 10 degrees the other morning when Jason checked it with his heat gun! OUCH!! That’s Cold!
Thank goodness for our pellet stove! It’s not super pretty but it gets the job done! It is so nice to just plug it in and with the french doors closed the room stays toasty warm:). My new vintage velvet curtains from Restoration Hardware help keep the room warm too. We are currently saving for 2 more panels for the sliding doors. These curtains are so great they really make the windows a lot less drafty and they are classy too:). I love our coffee table ($200 on Craigslist!) and sofa from Restoration as well!
I love how big the window is in here. It brings in so much natural light. It’s so fun to watch the kids and Moose playing outside in our yard. I just can’t wait for this snow to melt:).
I brought some of my new book page Easter eggs along with some pops of green and yellow to add color to the coffee table and the room. Now to just get Moose to stop stealing them! Ha! He just doesn’t understand how important decorating is yet but not to worry he will !
It wouldn’t be a family room without family pictures or bean bag chairs ( hidden under the pictures:). To see how I made the gallery wall click here I love the big letter “L” that Jason mage me from scrap wood.
We hide our TV behind the big black hutch in the corner. I recently moved the couch closer to the TV and put our Amish blanket chest and some houseplants behind it.
I am still trying to talk Jason into moving the TV AND getting cable. I would love to be able to finally watch HGTV at home not just at the Y! I want to move the TV and hang on the wall where our chalk board is and put a game table in the corner. Our family LOVES playing cards and board games…Ticket to Ride anyone?
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out the changes to our family room. What do you guys think about the white fireplace? Moose definitely loves it:).
