Since writing the post last week about our old door turned coat rack I realized I have never done a post about our entryway/ foyer. I think that’s because I have had the hardest time decorating it:). So many doorways, so little wall space, and a big need for storage. I still don’t think I will ever get it quite right but for now…here it is:). When we moved in the trim was painted an ugly light brown color and the closet doors were falling off their hinges. We gave the walls a fresh coat of Sherwin Williams Kestral White paint and painted the trim white. Jason fixed the closet doors and changed them from bi-fold doors to regular doors. We also changed out the brass knobs for oil rubbed bronze ones.
It looks so much brighter and cleaner now. We kept the french doors into the family room red and bought the matching wool rug to the family room one from Overstock.
I just recently painted our front door black. Yes, I am still trying to minimize all the red:). We have big plans for the outside of our house in terms of changing out the trim and adding more character. I would love to find an antique wood front door with windows someday but for now I like the black much better than the red. My new 5 minute yellow spring wreath really pops on it!
That black secretary is the third piece of furniture in that spot:). We have had it for over ten years now and I love how much storage it provides. I open up the lid and put our punch bowl on it when we have big parties so guests can make themselves at home right away! I still think the secretary is a little big for that spot but I am not ready to get rid of it.
I just added this new print from chalk full of love. We had this verse up on the wall of the living room of our Suburban split and I have been missing it ever since:). I love this new version.
Here’s another picture of our new coat rack made from an old door. I made the sign above it to encourage everyone to hang their coats.
Here’s a peak at the hallway up to one of our stairways. We are in the process of refinishing the stairs to match the rest of the wide pine floors Jason is putting in upstairs:). In the yellow frame is one of my new free prints from craftberry bush.
Don’t forget to pin our farmhouse entryway/ foyer!!!
There is a glimpse upstairs into our Spring living room. Happy first week of Spring:). I can’t wait to get outside and start gardening! The snow is finally melting here. Yay!
I am sharing my Entryway/ Foyer with these AMAZING link parties here
Really lovely!
Hi Judy, thank you:)
Your home is so lovely and so much the style that I love! It has a lot of similar details to my house (1950’s) . I just love it 🙂
Have a great day!
Karen thank you so much! Happy Monday:)
Tara,
I have to tell you I love the lay out of your house! And I think your foyer is great! I am currently struggling with the Foyer in our house. All though Im not sure you could actually call it that. It’s really just an awkward narrow space that the door and the stairs kind of collide in. They could have done so much more with it. Ahhh the could haves… Why don’t builders consult interior designers when they make their plans? Really so many problems could be solved. Thank you for sharing!

Cat,Thank you so much for stopping by! I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on foyers:). Builders really should factor in a lot wall space for us! Good luck with your Foyer, I am sure it will turn out beautifully:) Have a good week, Tara
Great foyer Tara! I have no foyer, you walk in and spill right into the living, so I love how you have that entry space. I think foyers are the hardest “rooms” to decorate. They have to look good but work hard in a small space. You’ve done that well.
Kristi, thank you so much for stopping by and your sweet words about my foyer! Have a great day, Tara
What a wonderfully large entryway… it is beautiful with many nice touches. Just lovely. 🙂
Thank you so much for taking the time to check it out!
Tara, this is my first time visiting your blog and I just love this peek at your home and your style! What a difference you’ve made to your entry with the paint colors and the pop of black. I painted all my interiors doors black and love them so much against a neutral backdrop (and in a house of kids 🙂 ). I would love a secretary like yours, all that storage and they are so charming! Love the idea of using it for entertaining purposes too! Thanks very much for linking up to Best of the Nest, I’m so glad to meet you and your blog.
Lisa, I am so glad you stopped by to see my entryway and thank you so much for hosting the Best of the Nest!!! I have been to your blog quite a few times:) and I am honored that you would say such sweet things about my home!!!
What a pretty foyer! I live in a cottage, space like this doesn’t exist here…I love your layout!
Kim, thank you so much for your kind words about my foyer and for stopping by!
