Bennett’s blue boys bedroom refresh got a makeover with a queen bed, new built in desk & black out curtains!
It was a simple & inexpensive update that we were able to finish in just one weekend!

With all the family we have visiting, we soon realized that we needed another queen bed for guests.
So… after Jason & I splurged on a king bed for our bedroom, we kept our old queen mattress for Bennett.

Queen Bed for a Teenage Boys Bedroom Refresh
The only problem was that we had to completely makeover & give Ben’s boys bedroom a refresh AGAIN to make room for a bigger mattress…
Measuring the queen mattress we realized that it would fit perfectly in the same spot we added his built in desk.
So, down went the desk, Oy!

And in went the queen bed with a new platform frame we found on Amazon…
We painted the wall white & kept the top 2 book shelves & light for over the bed.
The white paint definitely brightens up the room even more.
I rehung the oar above the bed to break up the white a little.
Bennett really had no opinion of what kind of bedding he wanted for his teenage boys bedroom refresh except to say he wanted it blue. 🙂
So helpful!
I found his comforter set on sale at Target and added 2 white Euro pillows along with it.
With Bennett’s built in desk gone, Jason had to make him a new one for his boys bedroom refresh!

Jason took the wood left over from Ben’s former built in desk and added it to the built in bookcase next to his bed.
Although, this desk is half the size of the last one it still has plenty of room for Bennett’s laptop & homework.
Lastly, we added blue & white stripped blackout curtains to match his new comforter set & dresser. (see the DIY dresser redo HERE)
The new curtains help keep the room nice & dark for people sleeping since his windows are southern facing and let in a ton of light.
The changes we made to for Ben’s teenage boys bedroom refresh allow for more floor space & it is great to have another place to put guests.
Good thing we added bunk beds to Tucker’s room so Bennett has a spot to sleep when he looses his room. 🙂
Knowing us this won’t be the last time we make changes to this boys bedroom but for now we have moved on to the next DIY project!
I hope this inspires you with lots of DIY ideas & farmhouse decor ideas for your teenage boys bedroom refresh!
