Sharing the BEST waffle recipe from scratch, my Nana Kay’s easy & delicious homemade waffles recipe!
Maybe for some of you waffles don’t remind you of summer but growing up every summer we would go to my Nana and Grandpop’s house on Long Beach Island and they would make homemade waffles for breakfast.
I am not sure how many batches of waffles Nana and Grandpop would make for my big family but I do remember having to wait my turn… and we always served the homemade waffles from youngest to oldest which is the same way we do it in my home today!

Ingredients Needed to Make Homemade Waffles
- 2 cups flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 salt
- 2 eggs separated
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 4 tbsp. melted butter
- a waffle iron
Step by Step Instructions for How To Make Homemade Waffles
Step ONE – Mix Together Dry Ingredients
Shift dry ingredients together first.
Step TWO – Add Egg Yolks & Milk
Add egg yolks and milk (mix thoroughly).
Step THREE – Mix in Melted Butter
Stir in 4 tablespoons of melted butter to the waffle batter.
Step FOUR – Fold in Egg Whites
Whip and then fold in egg whites.
Egg White Tips – I have found that my stand mixer is the best way to whip egg whites until fluffy.
Step FIVE – Add your Waffle Batter to the Waffle Iron.
Bake your batter in your favorite waffle iron.
I find that a soup ladle does a great job adding waffle batter to a waffle iron.
Remove & enjoy your homemade waffles when ready!
Here’s a picture of my Nana Kay at the shore with my mom…isn’t she stylish?
I was fortunate enough to know her into my teen years.
She was an amazing knitter and would knit all my sweaters, hats, gloves and scarves growing up:).
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my Nana Kay’s homemade waffle recipe!

We are huge waffle eaters around here.. this recipe looks like a keeper! Such a sweet picture of your grandmother. It’s funny how food features in so many of our memories. My grandmother used to make a sweet bread called kuchen every Christmas and Thanksgiving.. now I do it. It’s just not Christmas without it!
