The Great Family Room Christmas Tree Dilemma
For the last few years, I have started thinking about getting an artificial Christmas tree.
I loved the idea of putting it up during the day while the kids were at school and surprising them when they got of the bus.
There would be no needles to vaccuum up, no tree to water and best of all no help needed to string the lights.
So, I ordered one.

And… put it up while the kiddos were at school.
Until, my high schooler came home and I surprised him.
Well… he took one look at my fake tree and announced that I was taking part of his Christmas joy away with my new purchase?
Oh dear…
And… didn’t I remember how excited our house gets when we go out and get a Christmas tree together.
Apparently, live Christmas trees bring Christmas joy… who knew?!!! 🙂
I tried to remind him that we went to Lowes last year for our tree but… he just wouldn’t listen.

Three more kids came home unimpressed and disappointed by my fake tree so back in the box it went.
So much for that idea!!!
It really did look pretty with our family room Christmas decor.

We all drove together back to Lowes to buy this year’s new Christmas tree singing Christmas carols & music the whole way. 🙂
A giant eight foot tall Frasier fir Christmas tree that we had to cut off a foot in order to get it stand up in our family room.
Somewhere in the craziness of trying to simplify Christmas decorating for me, I had forgotten about the joy picking out and decorating a tree was for them.
Phew, Christmas joy is back again at the Lehman House. 🙂
And… it is becoming WAY more clear to me that these years are flying by…
It won’t be long till they are all grown up with Christmas trees of their own.
All kidding aside… the true joy at Christmas for our family comes from the incredible gift of Jesus’s birth.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
I wish you all joy and peace this Christmas!

Hello,
I found your blog by searching for SW Kestrel White pictures! Your home is beautiful and I’m looking forward to exploring your blog more. You have great taste in home decor!
Are the walls in your family room Kestrel White? I love the color in that room. I noticed you used it in your master bedroom as well and it looks more white. After buying a few too many SW samples, I’m getting desperate for a good color!
Thank you for sharing your creativity and your testimony, too! ; )
Thank you so much for your sweet comments about our home & for checking out my family room Christmas tour Leah! Yes the walls in our family room are SW Kestral white! We have found it to be a great neutral in so many of our rooms (living, family, hallways & 2 bedrooms). It is really light so if you are looking for more of a contrast with white trim it might not be the color for you. Another fav paint color of ours is SW crushed ice which we used in our kitchen & daughter’s room.
