We have needed privacy in the laundry room for a while & I decided a DIY window cornice would be perfect because it would look clean & nice & hide our cheap mini-blind beautifully.

It would add some more color to the laundry room & would give us some much needed privacy.

You never know when you have to iron something in a hurry!

Supplies & Tools Needed to Build a DIY Window Cornice

• Wood to fit window – I used extra scrap wood we had in the garage for the base. I chose some cedar 1×6 that we had leftover from our fence because they have rounded corners and are beefy so I wouldn’t need too much batting and they are 6 inches wide which is what I wanted my cornice to be.
• Fabric and Quilt Batting – I used scrap fabric and batting I had in my fabric bin to cover the cedar
• 2 L Brackets
• Other supplies you may already have:
a saw, a tape measure, screws, screw driver, scissors, staple gun and staples

With the exception of fabric and batting you can find all of these items at any hardware store.

You can even cut the wood there if you don’t have a saw at home.

Step by Step Instructions for How to Build a DIY Window Cornice

Step ONE – Measure your Window

Measure the window trim width with a tape measure.

Step TWO – Pick Out Fabric & Gather Supplies

Pick out fabric that is tall & wide enough to cover the wood frame you are building for the DIY window cornice.
