I am so excited to finally start some projects outside!

Curb Appeal Ideas Already Done

We have done a few things so far to improve the curb appeal of our farmhouse… we dug out some huge ornamental grasses, built 2 Cedar flower planters, added a window and made over an entryway bench to the front I still have big plans for our home.

Curb Appeal – the Before of our Farmhouse

Here is the front as it is right now, we have a lot of work to do!

The first thing we want to do is change up the landscaping a little bit.

I want to remove the bushes in the front garden because they are partially blocking the front door from the driveway.

I also want to add a tree to break up the length of our farmhouse and provide some much needed shade to the walkway and the driveway.

Next we want to drawl the eye more to the front door by adding a new porch light, more flowers, pretty farmhouse decor & a new front mat.

Curb Appeal – the Plan

Here’s a rough sketch of my curb appeal plan…as you can see I am not an artist, ha!

Curb appeal hop - the plan

The ultimate curb appeal plan is… to see our farmhouse painted white with a big front porch with comfy seating, pretty lighting, a more prominent front door, flowers EVERYWHERE & a little more shade.

While I know it will take a few years to get to where we want to be, you have to start somewhere!

Lastly, we really want to extend the porch by adding a pergola (see that HERE) & I still am trying to talk Jason into adding an old lunch or school bell (HERE).

Farmhouse Curb Appeal – List of DIY Project, Gardening & Decorating Ideas

  • dig out and move the shrubs that are in bad spots in the front and place in better locations in the yard
  • add a tree, some evergreens and other small perennials to the front (HERE)
  • hide the ugly short wall with DIY lattice in the front (HERE)
  • add more comfortable seating to the front porch
  • paint the entryway bench (HERE)
  • change out the front light to one that isn’t as bird friendly and has more of a farmhouse feel (HERE)
  • add a welcoming pallet sign with our family’s name on it (HERE)
  • add more potted plants, porch decor, a new mat and a school bell (HERE)
  • time permitting extend the front entrance by adding a pergola (HERE)

Farmhouse Curb Appeal – After

Farmhouse front porch - curb appeal reveal

The first thing we did to change the curb appeal was to add some new landscaping to create a better site line to the front door.

We also added a tree to create some much needed shade and breakup the length of our home.

Next, we covered our ugly concrete wall with some DIY- lattice.

We added a new barn porch light and some comfy rocking chairs from Lamps Plus.

The pop of black from the porch light and the white from the rocking chairs make such a big difference.

Jason and I created a DIY – pallet sign for our farmhouse front porch to welcome guests and make our porch uniquely ours.

I added a new flag pillow and welcome mat from Home Goods as well as some flower pots and a hydrangea filled watering can to make it even more welcoming.

The pillows on the rocking chairs are from Big Lots.

Our new white rocking chairs look great with our newly painted red entryway bench.

  1. Tara, beautiful job! I can picture it when that tree comes in – it’s the perfect placement for it, and I love all of your accents. You’ve done a fantastic job of drawing the eye up the front door!
